For the very first Sunday of the 2024-25 season, the NBA offered us a little Pacers – Sixers in the Châteauroux time zone. A rather hyped poster despite notable absences on the Philadelphia side, a poster which offered us a crazy scenario: victory for Philly in overtime, XXL performance from Tyrese Maxey, endless challenges at the end of the match and improbable baskets. Without Jojo and without PG, Maxey was once again forced to carry the Sixers attack on his shoulders this Sunday. But unlike the first two matches where he came through at address, this time Tyrese released a real offensive card with 45 pawns on the clock.
However, things got off to a bad start for him. As against Milwaukee, as against Toronto, Tyrese Maxey experienced a delay in ignition with a lot of clumsiness in the first period. A first period during which it was the role players and the bench players who carried Philadelphia, from Eric Gordon (15 points) to Caleb Martin (17 points, 12 rebounds) via Andre Drummond (17 rebounds), KJ Martin and our national Guerschon Yabusele, the latter not scoring a single point but showing flawless energy.

Maxey notably unleashed an overtime in boss mode, scoring 10 of the Sixers’ 13 points in the final period! As a symbol, it was he who put the lid on by making his last two free throws two seconds from the end to kill the match.

On the Pacers side, it’s clearly a defeat that leaves a mark.
First match of the season at home, the Sixers weakened in front, all this after two not really convincing performances at the opening of the regular season, in short we expected better, much better from Tyrese Haliburton and his gang.
Speaking of Haliburton, he finally found his outside shot (4/9 at 3-points), he who planted a huge winning shot for the equalizer at the end of the fourth quarter. But at the same time, he also cracked on the free-throw line when he could have equalized in the final moments of overtime, without forgetting some unwelcome turnovers in the money-time.
In the final four of the Playoffs last year, the Pacers started the season on the wrong foot with this second defeat. We will have to react and quickly because the Eastern Conference is not going to do them any favors this season!
