Los Angeles., Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was briefly arrested Sunday in a traffic incident just hours before his NFL debut, the franchise confirmed.
Hill was later released and was at Dolphins Stadium for the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Miami team said in a brief statement that did not detail the reason for the arrest.
According to the chain ESPN, The player was stopped for speeding and later had a verbal altercation with the police during which he was handcuffed.
A video of the incident showed Hill, one of the NFL’s top players at his position, lying face down on the asphalt next to his car as he was handcuffed by several officers outside the Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium.
Hill, 30, will be playing his third season in a Dolphins uniform and the ninth of his NFL career, in which he was selected to the Pro Bowl six times.
The receiver previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs, with whom he won the Super Bowl in 2020.
