A rare and nearly complete dinosaur skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex (T Rex) has been sold for a whopping €4.8 million at an auction held in Zurich, Switzerland. The 67-million-year-old fossil, which was found in the United States in 2013, was one of the few known specimens with over 50 percent of its bones intact. The sale price made it one of the most expensive dinosaur fossils ever to be sold at an auction, sparking excitement and curiosity among paleontologists and collectors worldwide.
A composite Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton made up of nearly 300 bones from three dig sites in the US has sold at auction in Switzerland for 4.8 million francs (€4.87m). Measuring approximately 11.6 metres long and 3.9 metres high, the skeleton, named “Trinity”, was put together in an open-mouth pose and sold for less than the anticipated five to eight million francs. The auction, held by Koller in Zurich, was the first of its kind to take place in Europe. Marketing director Karl Green called the price paid a fair one and hoped the skeleton would be put on public display.
In conclusion, the recent sale of a T rex skeleton for over €4.8 million at a Zurich auction has caused a stir in the paleontological community. This magnificent and ancient creature continues to captivate our imaginations and remind us of the awe-inspiring creatures that once roamed our planet. It is reassuring to know that through these auctions, museums and research institutions can continue to educate and inform us about the scientific advancements in the field of paleontology. We can only hope that there will be more discoveries and auctions of such fantastic specimens in the future.
