Typhoon No. 9 ‘Saola’ Causes Massive Evacuations and Disruptions in Guangdong Province, China

Typhoon No. 9 ‘Saola’ landed in Guangdong Province, China early this morning, promptly evacuating 470,000 people, shutting down public institutions, production and sales facilities, and completely stopping public transportation.

According to the Central Meteorological Observatory of China, Saola landed in Zhuhai, Guangdong at around 3:30 am today and is moving westward along the coast at a speed of 45 meters per second.

The Central Meteorological Agency analyzed that although Saola is small in size, it maintains the level of a super typhoon because its energy is concentrated.

Guangdong Province has evacuated more than 466,000 people from dangerous areas affected by the typhoon and suspended the operation of more than 4,000 trains.

Shenzhen Airport in Guangdong Province closed the airport the day before and stopped all aircraft operations, and more than 360 passenger ships operating 147 routes in Guangdong Province also stopped operating.

Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the provincial capital of Guangdong Province, stopped operating public facilities such as production facilities, commercial facilities, tourist attractions, and parks, and all schools were closed.
