TOKYO, August 15, WAM / Typhoon “Lan” made landfall in western Japan today, Tuesday morning, with violent winds and heavy rains, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The agency said the typhoon, with winds of up to 126 km/h, hit Wakayama Prefecture, about 600 km west of Tokyo.
It is expected that “Lan” will sweep throughout the day, Tuesday, this region, where two major cities are located, Osaka and Kobe, before moving away over the Sea of Japan in the evening.
In a statement, the agency warned of landslides, rising water levels in low-lying areas, flooding of rivers and strong winds.
Lan caused hundreds of flight cancellations and rail traffic disruptions, including the shinkansen bullet train.
