JAKARTA Type 2 diabetes can come up with some symptom body. One of them changes on the surface of the skin known as skin tags can indicate insulin resistance .

Research has shown that skin tags develop as a result of hyperinsulinemia. Where is the rate insulin in abnormally high blood pressure.

“Skin tags are soft, benign bumps, fleshy and stemmed. They are usually small in size, affecting the neck and ears, but can also grow in the anal and groin area,” said Dr Efthimia Karra, Consultant Endocrinologist at Prince Grace Hospital.

It is not well understood why skin tags developed. However, this condition becomes more common with age. 60% of individuals 69 years of age or older have multiple skin tags.

Skin tags have been associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia. Other conditions associated with skin tags require acromegaly, a condition associated with excess growth hormone, Crohn’s disease, Mellitus diabetes , high blood pressure , high cholesterol .

“Skin tags develop when the body produces extra cells in the top layer of skin. Skin tags tend to affect patients with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, because insulin is a growth-stimulating hormone,” explains Dr Karra.

According to Dr Karra, skin tags develop when clusters of collagen and blood vessels become trapped within thicker pieces of skin. Since skin tags are usually in areas where the skin is wrinkled or creased, this indicates that the skin tag is caused by skin rubbing against the skin.

Meanwhile, the first stage in the development of type 2 diabetes is prediabetes, which is when blood sugar levels are above the normal range, but not yet high enough to qualify as type 2 diabetes.

However, it is believed that diabetes’ long-term damage to other vital organs, including the heart, starts at an early stage. Factors that increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes also increase the risk of prediabetes, including high blood pressure, family history diabetes , and lack of physical fitness.

Lifestyle factors, especially adopting a healthy diet, can help prevent the onset of diabetes, and allow for better management of type 2 diabetes.
