Tyler Motte is going to New York

The New York Rangers show that they are very serious in view of the spring waltz. After the addition of Vladimir Tarasenko, it is now the turn of Tyler Motte (1.35 million, future UFA), a character player, to land in the Big Apple.

Motte was obtained in return for the services of Quebec forward Julien Gauthier ($800,000, future RFA), who is now a full member of the Ottawa Senators. A conditional choice (7th round) is also part of the transaction. If the Rangers ever pass the first round, this pick will become a 6th round pick.

So far, Motte has collected nine points in 38 games, which is not a monstrous harvest. On the other hand, it is not recognized as an offensive weapon, but more like sandpaper.

In 2022-23, Motte gave out 88 hits, good for an average of 2.3 shoulder shots per game in just 13 minutes and a dust of use.

Add to that the 43 shots he blocked, like a warrior, and his 2 minutes 43 spent on average during the numerical inferiority. This is the type of element that the New York Rangers had to add to display a complete portrait for the spring tournament.

In return for the 5-foot-10, 192-pound winger, Pierre Dorion grabbed 25-year-old 6-foot-4, 224-pound Quebecer Julien Gauthier.

The 21st choice of the 2016 amateur auction has still not met expectations for him, but this year he has shown a few times that he can win. His record currently shows nine points, including six goals, in 40 games.

Gauthier also delivered 70 shoulder shots for an average playing time of 8 minutes 21, which is not trivial.

Moreover, Gauthier joins a well-stocked skewer of Francophones with Claude Giroux, Thomas Chabot, Derick Brassard, Mathieu Joseph and even Travis Hamonic, who speaks the language of Molière very well.
