The spokeswoman of the Katowice district prosecutor’s office, attorney Marta Zawada-Dybek, informed about the charges being brought against the woman. – On the basis of the evidence collected in the case, the prosecutor decided to present the mother of a minor boy with an allegation of an attempted murder of the child. Today in the prosecutor’s office the charge was presented to a woman, the spokeswoman said at a briefing in front of the Katowice prosecutor’s office.
During the interrogation lasting several hours, the woman did not question the course of events established by the investigators, but was unable to explain why she hurt her son with a knife. – The woman gave explanations. In fact, she admitted to committing the alleged act of attempted murder, while in her explanations she did not provide rational reasons indicating the motive for her behavior – added prosecutor Zawada-Dybek.
Psychiatrists will investigate the suspect
The prosecutor’s office intends to appoint expert psychiatrists to assess the suspect’s sanity and check whether she suffers from mental illnesses or disorders. On Saturday, the Katowice-East District Court will also file a motion for the temporary arrest of a 40-year-old woman.
– The basis for the preventive measure used, indicated in the prosecutor’s request, is both the severe punishment of the woman (for attempted murder she is threatened with life imprisonment – ed.) And the justified fear of fraud – explained the prosecutor, explaining that although the most important actions in the investigation had already been carried out, before many other procedural acts are prosecutors.
Even before Saturday’s questioning of the suspect, the investigators, among others they interviewed witnesses (including the suspect’s mother and brother, with whom the woman and her child had lived so far) and collected evidence – a knife was secured with a knife used by the mother to injure the child. A forensic expert opinion was also consulted and the boy’s medical records were studied.
– It is clear from this opinion that the boy suffered a body injury in the form of several cut wounds to the neck, some of these wounds being very serious – including one very serious, deep wound affecting muscles and blood vessels. According to the forensic expert’s opinion, these injuries were a real life-threatening disease. If the child had not been helped, the child would have probably died – informed prosecutor Zawada-Dybek.

Honorata in Tychy, where the tragedy took place, were also – although in a different room – the mother and brother of the suspect, who were questioned as witnesses. The investigators do not show that the police had previously intervened in the apartment because of disturbances in the peace or order.
Due to the charges brought against the mother, the prosecutor also applied to the district court for the appointment of a probation officer to represent the child’s rights in the pending criminal proceedings.
The injured boy is in a coma
The injured boy is treated at the Upper Silesian Child Health Center in Katowice. On Friday evening, he was transported there by a helicopter of the Polish Medical Air Rescue. Now, after a life-saving operation, the child is in a stable condition and the doctors’ prognosis for treatment success is good. He is in a pharmacological coma in the children’s intensive care unit.
Dr. Andrzej Bulandra, the coordinator of the Children’s Trauma Center in the Upper Silesian Child Health Center in Katowice, informed on Saturday morning that the boy had two large wounds and 7-8 smaller wounds on his neck. “These were neck wounds with cut muscles, with cut vessels, and – thankfully – with very little damage to the trachea. Therefore, these wounds were directly threatening the life of this child. The biggest problem was the significant blood loss. Upon arrival, the child was in shock, bleeding, and required intensive blood transfusions in the operating theater, the doctor reported on Saturday during the morning briefing.
Doctors have no doubts that the boy’s wounds were caused by being subjected to a sharp instrument. – It was definitely intentional. I think that this can be treated as an attempted murder of this child – assessed the coordinator of the Children’s Trauma Center at GCZD.
