Residents in the town of Vertientes, located in the main municipality of Camagüey, reported the death of two young people from their community, who were electrocuted after a cable fell.
According to Internet user Adalberto Ávila, a nurse from the aforementioned town, the deceased young people were identified as Roimer Mendoza Padilla, 21 years old, and Lázaro, known to his friends as “Pa o el Negro.”
“Today the people of Vertientes, Camagüey, deeply feel the sudden loss of an only son full of values and feelings created by his magnificent parents, who have given their lives for him. Rest in peace Roimer Mendoza Padilla,” the publication states.
The information shared on social networks indicates that the cable fell on Roimer, electrocuting him instantly, and that the second young man, who observed everything, lost his life trying to help him.
“I can’t believe it. Roimer, my boy, my crazy man, steel, a whole life ahead of him with a family that gave their life for you, everyone’s sweetest boy, why exactly did that cable have to fall on you? And El Negro, a tremendous person too, who went to try to save you and they didn’t even have compassion for him,” wrote Yelenis Sánchez, an acquaintance of Roimer.
Dozens of users in different Facebook groups shared the case, stating that they could not believe what had happened in the town. Many mourn the fact that they both had their entire lives ahead of them, and that they left behind a family that loved them.

Both were fired this Sunday, December 17, in a procession that was led by several horsemen carrying Cuban and white flags. According to the videos shared on social networks, they were followed by several people who were traveling aboard various means of transportation, from motorcycles to bicycles and other animal-drawn vehicles.
The farewell marched through the streets of the town until reaching the Vertientes Cemetery, where the remains of the young people were laid to rest.
