Two Young Children Hospitalized After Violent I-10 Freeway Crash
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two young children are currently receiving medical attention following a severe accident on the I-10 East Freeway, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The children, aged 1 and 4, were passengers in a Jeep driven by their father when the vehicle collided with another car.
Details of the Incident
On Sunday, the force of the crash caused the Jeep to overturn, resulting in the children being ejected from the vehicle. Eyewitness Victor Cordova captured the aftermath on camera while driving home. Initially, he feared for the lives of the children when he saw them on the freeway.
Eyewitness Account
“I thought they actually passed away. I thought they were dead,” Cordova told a local news outlet. His fears were alleviated when he saw the children moving after the accident. Thankfully, they were not struck by any other vehicles in the chaos that followed.
Investigation and Possible Charges
Although the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office has indicated that the father, 25, may face criminal charges for failing to restrain his young children properly in the vehicle.
A Call for Awareness
Cordova, a father himself, wants to spread a message about the importance of securing children while traveling. “For parents, for everybody, even if it’s a short distance, awareness is critical. Always ensure you properly secure your kids,” he emphasized.
