The driver who caused the death of Enzo Sanchez in June 2021 in Dijon, was sentenced on Monday February 7 to an adapted prison sentence. A decision that satisfies the defendant’s lawyer but also Enzo’s family.
The decision fell this Monday, February 7. The driver who mowed down the car and the life of Enzo Sanchez, 20, on June 27, 2021, was sentenced by the Dijon criminal court (Côte-d’Or).
He gets the 2 years in prison, one of which is suspended. The year in prison has been arranged: he will benefit from an electronic bracelet at home. He will also have to pay a fine of 2000 euros. His license was canceled and he is prohibited from retaking it for two years.
“It is a balanced and logical sentence, considers his lawyer Lucie Renoux. He had no criminal record, had 12 points on his license, did not drive while intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics. He works, he is inserted. It presents all the guarantees”.
Enzo Sanchez’s father is also satisfied with this decision: “we will finally be able to turn this page and begin our mourning”.
The accident also left three seriously injured. A priori, none of the civil parties will appeal.
The trying trial took place on January 5, 2022. The victim’s mother only hoped for one thing: “Let justice be done”.
The death of Enzo had caused considerable emotion last summer. The family had started a online petition to demand justice. Widely relayed on social networks, it has so far collected more than 10,000 signatures.
“This is only intended to alert you to a social phenomenon to which you turn a blind eye and which creates havoc every weekend.” explains the father of the victim, Nicolas Sanchez.
