Two-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Pool Amid Extreme Weekend Heat – NBC New York

A 2-year-old boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool in New York’s Rockland County over the weekend, authorities said Monday, as they investigate what they describe as a “tragic incident.”

Clarkstown police say they responded to a house of Tennyson Drive in Nanuet after receiving a call about a possible drowning around 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, officers saw that family members had pulled the boy out of the water and were performing CPR. Police took over those efforts, with the help of Rockland paramedics, before the boy was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

He was later pronounced dead.

No further details were released and the boy’s name has not been released. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The child’s death occurred during a weekend of extreme and unusual heat for this time of year, prompting New York City’s first heat advisory this month in years, as tens of thousands flocked to beaches and backyard pools to stay cool.
