two women from Mohamed Merah’s entourage indicted for “terrorist criminal association”

Two women from the entourage of terrorist Mohamed Merah, in police custody for 4 days, were indicted this Saturday for “terrorist criminal association”. They were placed under judicial control.

Placed in custody 4 days ago, two women from the entourage of terrorist Mohamed Merah, placed in police custody since Tuesday morning, were charged with “terrorist conspiracy and violation of a parent’s legal obligations”

In total, six women, belonging to the entourage of Mohamed Merah’s family, but not members of it, were arrested on Tuesday in Toulouse and Albi and placed in police custody. Four of them have since been released without prosecution at this stage.

The last two women were presented on Friday 7 October to an anti-terrorism magistrate for an indictment.

The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office said it has opened a judicial investigation for conspiracy of terrorist criminals and a parent’s evasion of his legal obligations that compromise his child’s health, safety, morals or education.

On Saturday, October 8, 2022, the two women were indicted for “terrorist conspiracy and a parent’s failure to fulfill their legal obligations”, PNAT confirmed to Franceinfo.

The preliminary investigation, entrusted to the anti-terrorism subdirectory (SDAT), had been open since 2014. These two women had left with their children for Syria.

It is also suspected that they contributed to the departure of Mohamed Merah’s sister Souad to Syria in 2014, who then traveled to Algeria.

More than ten years ago, Mohamed Merah killed seven people, between 11 and 19 March 2012, in Montauban and Toulouse.
