Both incidents took place on regional passenger rail lines in the canton of Bern north of the city of Bern, about 30 kilometers apart.
In the first accident in the village of Lišercs, three people were injured, including the train driver, but there were a total of 16 people on the train. In the second accident in the village of Bierenzumhof, 12 people were injured.
“During a strong wind (..) the locomotive of the train overturned on the right side of the tracks, slid a few meters down the embankment and finally came to a stop,” Bern canton police said, describing the first accident.
The second crash happened about 20 minutes after the first and injured nine adults and three children. Police earlier tweeted that at least one person was seriously injured.
