Former Porto and Portugal international Fernando Gomes has died at the age of 66. He battled pancreatic cancer for a long time and in October he had a stroke and was hospitalized.

Porto mourns the loss of one of the greatest figures in its history and expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends and all fans of Fernando Gomes.

Gomes is Porto’s all-time top scorer with 355 goals in 452 appearances for the club. He became the top scorer of the Portuguese league six times and twice – in 1983 and 1985 – won the Golden Boot.
