The teenager died after being hit by another train that was coming on the opposite track, witnesses said. The incident happened near the stop on Avenue N, between the Borough Park and Midwood neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
A call to 911 around 2:20 p.m. this Friday alerted the authorities, who went to the scene and found the young man’s body. “I saw how they took the body down about an hour ago, and my heart hurt because it went down in a bag,” Teresa Rojas told Univision Noticias 41.
“Surfing on the subway kills”
“We parents give advice to our children, don’t do this, don’t go there. And sometimes our children, just to have fun, to challenge themselves with other children, are not aware of what they are doing,” Rojas warns.
“What happened today is heartbreaking and our thoughts are with the teenager’s family,” Richard Davey, president of New York City Transit, said in a statement. “ Surfing at Subway kills. I implore parents to talk to their children. To teachers with their students. “It is an absurd and lethal practice,” he indicated.
In 2023, at least five people died from climbing on top of moving train cars. A total of 450 jaywalkers were seen traveling outside cars, including on top, in the first six months of last year.
