Two tbs’ers fled from the tbs clinic of the Pompe Foundation in Nijmegen on Tuesday between 8.30 pm and 9 pm. They have had outside help, a spokesperson for the foundation said on Wednesday. Unknown persons have made a hole in the fences around the forensic psychiatric clinic with equipment. The TBS officers then got into a car and disappeared.
Immediately after the escape, employees of the clinic warned the Public Prosecution Service (OM) and the police.
The police immediately started a search for the escaped men, but they had not been found by Wednesday morning. A spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service (OM) says that a search is underway “with man and power”.
Several police teams are working on it. The Public Prosecution Service does not want to disclose what the search looks like.
The grounds of the forensic psychiatric center are extensive and partly located in a wooded area. The Pompekliniek has alarm systems, fences and locks, according to the foundation.
Risks in the buildings and on the site are regularly investigated. According to the Pompe Foundation, it is customary for an inspection investigation to follow after an escape.
It is not the first time that patients in Nijmegen have escaped. After the last escape in 2019, additional security measures have been taken.
