The Bernese boxer Angelo Peña remained undefeated in his tenth fight as a professional. In the sold-out arena in Gümligen, the soon-to-be 30-year-old local hero won the main fight against the Japanese Hiroki Hanabus, who is five years younger.

The Swiss-Dominican dual citizen had to go over ten rounds before he won comfortably on points. For Peña, it was the biggest fight of his career so far, earning him the WBO super featherweight intercontinental title. This belt brings him one step closer to his goal of becoming world champion one day, the best in his weight class.

At the meeting in Gümligen, a second title fight with Swiss participation took place. Christopher Mouafo, a native of Cameroon who lives in Biel, celebrated a victory on points after ten rounds against Jonniel Laurente from the Philippines. With the WBO Global lightweight title, Mouafo has taken an important step towards perhaps soon becoming a candidate for a world championship fight.

Sailing: What can go wrong, goes wrong at Alinghi RB

The Swiss sailing syndicate Alinghi RB is increasingly losing sight of qualification for the America’s Cup. The Swiss also lost in the third semi-final in the preliminary round against the British. Everything went wrong for Alinghi in the first two regattas on Saturday. The Swiss were hoping for a reaction on Sunday. Instead, the third race was also lost before the start. Alinghi fell off the foils in the pre-start zone. The Swiss then had to contend with the boat no longer being able to maneuver, only just managed to avoid a collision with the British and fell off the foils again. The Swiss crossed the start line 40 seconds after the Britannia. Like the Britannia against Alinghi, Italy’s Luna Rossa is leading the US team American Magic 3-0 after three races. The first to win five regattas moves into the challenger final.

Football: Servette fails against Schaffhausen

Schaffhausen caused a surprise in the second round of the Swiss Cup. The team from the Challenge League knocked defending champions Servette out of the competition with a 2:1 win. At the start of the match, everything went as expected. The favorites from Geneva took the lead in the eleventh minute through Jérémy Guillemenot. The leader of the Super League then managed their lead skilfully. It was only after the break that the home team found their way into the game. But it took the kind help of the French-speaking Swiss to bring Ciriaco Sforza’s team back into the game. First, goalie Joel Mall deflected a sharp cross from Gabriele De Donno onto the leg of Yoan Severin, from where the ball rolled into the net. Then, after an hour and a dive, Guillemenot was sent off with his second warning – a harsh decision by referee Anojen Kanagasingam. Both teams then had chances to score the winning goal. Five minutes before the end, Marc Giger scored with a header to give the underdogs a much-celebrated 2-1 lead, creating a big surprise.
