In Japan, two top-quality sweet persimmons were sold for over 9 million won, making it a hot topic. While the sweetness of ordinary sweet persimmons is around 16 Brix, the sweetness of this sweet persimmon was reported to have reached 25 Brix.
According to Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun and CBC News on the 4th, two sweet persimmons from the sweet persimmon brand ‘Tenkafubu (天下富舞)’ were sold for 1 million yen (about 9.02 million won) at an auction held at the Central Wholesale Market in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture on October 31. .
Tenkafubu is a luxury brand that can only be applied to persimmons with a high sugar content and a pretty shape among the ‘Neo Sweet’ sweet persimmon varieties developed by Gifu Prefecture in 2015. Tenkafubu is a name borrowed from the phrase ‘Tenkafumu (天下布武)’ engraved on the seal of Oda Nobunaga, who unified the Japanese archipelago. Cheonhapomu means conquering the world by force.
The sweet persimmon that was won at this auction is of the highest grade, ‘Tenkabito (天下人)’, among the ‘Tenkafubu’ brands. It is known that sweet persimmons have a sugar content of more than 25 brix and weigh more than 300 g.
The sweet persimmon variety most commonly cultivated in Japan and Korea is ‘Buyu’. Developed in Japan, the size of the fruit is 220-230g and the sugar content is about 15-16 brix. Usually, when the sugar content exceeds 15 Brix, consumers feel that it is sweet when eating it.
The successful bidder for this auction was confirmed to be ‘Marujin Fruits and Vegetables’, a supermarket located in Nagoya, Japan. In fact, even if the sweet persimmons are of the highest quality, it is rare for them to be sold at such a high price, and it seems that the main purpose of the sale is to promote the sweet persimmon variety. An official from Marujin Fruits and Vegetables said, “We set a high price to promote (sweet persimmon) to customers,” and added, “We will do our best to promote Tenkafubu.”
Meanwhile, persimmon is an excellent fruit for modern people who use their eyes a lot by using mobile phones and computers. This is because it is rich in carotenoids, which help with eye and bone health. Carotenoids are converted to vitamin A in the body and keep eyes healthy. Beta-cryptoxanthin, a member of the carotenoid family, promotes bone formation and prevents osteoporosis.
In particular, the sweet persimmon varieties developed in Korea, ‘Jinhong’, ‘Wonmi’, ‘Jowan’, and ‘Roman’, contain more five types of carotenoid components, including ▲lutein, zeaxanthin, ▲alpha-carotene, ▲beta-carotene, and ▲beta-cryptoxanthin, than foreign varieties. . It was confirmed that these ingredients are contained in greater quantities the closer the color of the skin and fruit is to scarlet.
