Two suspects arrested in France for stabbing Groningen agent in the face | NOW

Two men have been arrested in northern France on suspicion of involvement in a stabbing in Groningen, in which a police officer was seriously injured in the face during a curfew on Wednesday evening. The police reported this on Saturday.

It concerns a twenty-year-old man from the Groningen municipality of Oldambt and a 32-year-old American without a permanent residence or residence in the Netherlands. The two men are still in France.

Two men poked at two officers around 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening during a curfew. One officer was seriously injured in the head and neck. Both victims had to go to hospital.

The seriously injured officer is now in danger of life, police chief Frank Smilda reported Thursday evening. The other officer was slightly injured and was quickly released from the hospital.

Police received more than fifty tips after sharing images

The Northern Netherlands police shared images of the suspects on Friday. They were filmed cycling along a sidewalk on De Savornin Lohmanlaan, near Beethovenlaan. That is near the crime scene, in the Van Houtenlaan.

After the stabbing incident, more than fifty tips were received. According to the police, these led to the arrest of the two men. A surrender procedure has been initiated to get them to the Netherlands. How long that will take is not yet known.

A forensic team from the police also conducted a trace investigation on a houseboat in Groningen on Friday in connection with the stabbing. It is not known whether the houseboat has a link with the suspects.
