The police have arrested two suspects, aged 14 and 21, in connection with an explosion in Rotterdam. Around 10:30 PM last night, an explosive went off at a house on Buffelstraat in the northeast of the city. The residents were not injured.
The two suspects from Ridderkerk fled in a car but were quickly arrested on the Abraham van Rijckevorselweg. The police have seized the car for investigation and are looking for witnesses or people who have camera images of the explosion. It is not known why the house on Buffelstraat was targeted.
The number of explosions in the Netherlands has almost tripled in the past twelve months. The police registered another 228 explosions in 2022, and in 2023 622 houses, cars and business premises were targeted.
Earlier this week, the police also arrested young suspects in the port of Rotterdam. There were 19 drug extractors, including six minors and, for the first time, a woman. The youngest suspect was 14.
