Two powerful earthquakes were recorded in Indonesia with a difference of several hours. According to the data of the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), earthquakes occurred on Sunday, April 23, in the area of the Kepulauan Batu archipelago.
The first aftershocks occurred early in the morning and had a magnitude of 6.1. A few hours later, another earthquake of magnitude 5.8 followed.
According to EMSC, the source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 43 km.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 202 kilometers west of Padang (population 840,000) and 177 kilometers west of Pariaman (population 92,000).
The Batu archipelago, located in the Indian Ocean, includes 48 islands. The largest of them is Tanakhbala.
