Volkswagen is consistently one of the three dominant brands in the Latvian new car market, but how successful was 2022 for it and the premium brand Audi?
Volkswagen importer in the Baltic States and Audi importer in Latvia and Lithuania Møller Baltic Import informed about this at a special event in Jūrmala, where two special Volkswagen ID concept models were present. SPACE VIZZION and Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept.
Despite continuous challenges, the importer and wholesaler of Audi cars in Latvia and Lithuania, as well as the importer of Volkswagen cars in the Baltic countries, has shown stable growth in 2022. 9,281 cars were delivered to customers, which is 7% more than in 2021. Moller Baltic Import had a particularly successful year in the electric car segment. Volkswagen’s electric car market share in the Baltic States is 9.2%, occupying the 3rd place and growing sales figures of ID family models, while Audi is the leading premium class electric car brand in Lithuania and Latvia, with a 30% market share. This year, with the production capacity returning to normal mode, it is planned to deliver at least 30% more new cars to Volkswagen customers than in 2022. Up to 75% of Volkswagens sold last year were T models or crossovers – T-Roc, T-Cross and Tiguan. The strategy for the new model year will focus on electric cars – the modernized ID.3 and the completely new ID.7. To illustrate its scale, the 2019 Volkswagen ID concept car was even demonstrated in Jurmala. SPACE VISION.
The VW commercial vehicle division, in turn, has high hopes for the ID Buzz electric bus, which is already available for sale. As we learned in Jurmala, the plan is to take first place in the electric commercial vehicle segment. In 2022, Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle division delivered 1,257 new cars from the range of Caddy, Transporter and Crafter models to customers, thus ensuring a 9.7% market share in the Baltic States. The Latvian premiere of the new Amarok pick-up truck was held in Jūrmala. Its pre-sale will open at the end of March, but the first cars will reach dealers in May. But what has Audi done? Audi 2022 was a record year. 1,058 new cars of this brand were sold in Lithuania and Latvia, which is 33% more than a year earlier. In Latvia, Audi became the No. 1 brand in the premium electric car category and no. 2 brands in the entire electric car market, including volume brands. The most popular new Audi model in Latvia in 2022 was e-tron – 127 registered cars. In order to strengthen the status of the leading premium electric car brand, the Audi importer demonstrated the concept car A6 Avant e-tron concept in Jurmala, which is a brand new prototype of a four-wheeled sports utility vehicle – of course also electric.
