Two soldiers of the Lebanese army were killed in the Israeli attack

The strike hit a building next to an army checkpoint in Kafra, Bint Jbeil district in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army has not commented on the incident.

A few hours earlier, the Israeli army had destroyed the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, injuring two peacekeepers.

The Lebanese army has largely stayed out of the armed conflict between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah, trying to avoid an escalation of the conflict.

When Israeli soldiers launched a ground attack on southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army withdrew about five kilometers from their observation posts on the border.

But as Israel continues its campaign against Hezbollah with heavy airstrikes and ground attacks, the Lebanese army is increasingly caught in the crossfire.

An Israeli airstrike earlier this month killed one Lebanese soldier and wounded another.

The UN peacekeeping mission has also found itself in the crossfire of the Israel-Hezbollah battles.

UNIFIL said there were explosions at the mission’s headquarters near an observation tower in the southern Lebanese city of Nakura.

One of the injured peacekeepers was taken to the hospital in Tira, while the other received medical assistance on the spot.

UNIFIL did not specify the cause of the explosion.

The Israeli army said Israeli soldiers operating in southern Lebanon detected the threat and returned fire, eventually hitting a UNIFIL post and injuring two peacekeepers.

The army said a preliminary investigation found that the intended target was located about 50 meters away from the UNIFIL position.

On Thursday, an Israeli tank fired directly at an observation tower at the UNIFIL headquarters, wounding two Indonesian peacekeepers, the UN mission said.

They also said that Israeli soldiers attacked a bunker at the base where the peacekeepers were sheltering, damaging vehicles and a communication system.

These events have caused sharp criticism from European countries, including Italy and France – their soldiers serve in the UN forces.
