Alerted around 1 p.m., the firefighters intervened to extinguish the flames of a fire located on avenue Paul Arène, in an R+4 type residence, at Draguignan.
Under circumstances yet to be determined, the fire spread to an apartment located on the first floor.
“I saw smoke coming out of the apartment. I then started knocking on the doors of the different floors. Everyone quickly evacuated the premises by the stairs…”, told a witness on the spot.
In the end, more fear than harm. Seventeen people left the residence on their own. Four others were evacuated by firefighters. Two of them were inconvenienced by the fumes and taken care of by the emergency services.
At 2:30 p.m., the intervention was still in progress to secure the premises. Thirty firefighters were mobilized.
