New York, November 5 (EFE).- Two skyscrapers in New York, the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Center, were illuminated this Tuesday with lights in the colors of the US flag during the presidential elections.
The Empire State emblem, built in 1930, also celebrates with its decoration when one of the two candidates wins one of the seven “hinge” states: it turns on blue lights for the vice president and Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, or red. for the former Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021), according to the official account of the building in X.
When one of the two candidates receives the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to declare themselves the winner, the building will “light up in (their party’s) color for the rest of the evening,” his message said. .
It is not certain that the winner of the elections will be known this Tuesday, because the results of the main states, which are expected to be very close, may take several hours or even days before we know.
This could generate a situation similar to that of the 2020 elections, when the winner, Democrat Joe Biden, was not known until four days later.
Rockefeller Center, for its part, the headquarters of the NBCU media group, will become “Democracy Square” on election night. Its facades are also illuminated with the red, white and blue colors of the US flag and from there the election results are broadcast live as they are announced. EFE
