Two Silver-Plated Cigarette Cases Found from World War II Lancaster Bomber

Two silver-plated cigarette cases with the initials of 27-year-old flight engineer Smart and 21-year-old pilot Moore were found.

Two silver-plated cigarette cases were found. Their Lancaster bomber never returned from a mission to Bochum, Germany on June 13, 1943, as they were shot down over Dutch waters.

There were seven people on the plane. The remains of four people were found and buried, but Smart, Moore and Spreck were presumed missing.

The British Ministry of Defense and the War Graves Commission decide when and where the burial will take place.

There are believed to be 30-50 crash sites in the Netherlands that contain the remains of missing World War II fighters.
