When Microsoft failed to break through with its Windows Phone / Mobile system, information began to emerge about the mythical Surface Phone, a device that would take care of the more successful Surface hardware division. But as soon as it appeared on the market Microsoft Surface Duo, it was clear to everyone that this is not a traditional device, mainly due to its design, which connects two separate displays.
Although the Surface Duo has its problems and is definitely not a perfect device, the non-traditional design has found its supporters. They are evidently aware of this in Redmond, so they are slowly preparing a successor, at least according to a registered patent. According to him, Microsoft will not only not leave the folding design, but will immediately add an extra display.
The Microsoft Surface Trio, as some foreign journalists have already been able to name the device from the patent, consists of three displays and two bends, remotely resembling a folder. When folded, the Surface Trio should resemble a traditional smartphone, only with dimensions referring to the current Surface Duo model.
The patent revealed two joints and three displays
In addition to the intended form, the patent is sparse for any additional information, so we do not even have a more detailed insight into how flexible joints should work or how the user environment will react to different types of bends. However, two-jointed smartphones could be big terno in the future – according to speculation, both the Korean Samsung and the Chinese TCL are working on a similar device. In their case, however, they will probably be phones with a flexible screen.
