Two schools shut down after an emergency response to a shooting near Manhattan

NEW YORK — At least two Manhattan schools were closed Tuesday morning after a shooting took place outside one of them, according to the School Safety Officers Union.

The shooting happened outside the high school. Martin Luther King in Amsterdam Avenue in between 67th y 68th streets just before 10:00 am Police sources say a man, possibly a student from a nearby school, appears to have been shot three times in the stomach.

The union said it was notified the victim is 15 years old, though police did not immediately confirm this.

He was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. Sources say a person of interest is in custody and authorities are investigating whether others may be involved. LaGuardia was the other school closed Tuesday morning.

The video posted on Citizen App showed a strong police response at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
