Both the two couples who reported problems on the trip over Besseggen were brought down from the mountain late Wednesday night.
Police, the Red Cross and volunteers were involved and got the four mountain hikers back down safely.
The police announced at half past six on Wednesday night that a foreign couple had called the emergency number from Besseggen.
They were on their way from Memurubu over Besseggen to Gjendesheim when the fog came, and it started to snow and rain. They therefore did not dare to cross the edge, and wanted help to get back down.
– They called the emergency number, but after that we have not been in contact with them again, says operations manager Kristian Bjaanes, at the Inland police district.
The two must have said that they are cold and tired. The police stated that they receive assistance from the Red Cross and two volunteer Sherpas to locate the couple.
– They are probably on the path they are supposed to be on, so it is only for us to walk that path so that we can meet them, Bjaanes said.
It did not turn out to be that simple.
– This couple was found by an acquaintance in a completely different place than we assumed they were going. They are now followed down to Besseggen mountain lodge, says Bjaanes at 22 o’clock on Wednesday night.
The couple were relatively tired and were found east of Bessvatnet.
