Two reclaimed Germans infected with coronavirus

The two passengers are isolated and are being taken by the Red Cross to a hospital in Frankfurt.

115 in quarantine

115 passengers were taken to the barracks in Germersheim last night after medical examinations, some 120 kilometers south of Frankfurt. Here they will have to spend the next two weeks in quarantine.

The quarantine is necessary because it can take up to two weeks for the first symptoms of the corona virus to become visible.

Wenzhou, a million-dollar city, also closed

Not only Wuhan, where the virus outbreak began, has been cut off from the outside world. Today, the Chinese authorities also closed Wenzhou, a city with nine million inhabitants about 800 kilometers east of Wuhan.

The city is located outside the Hubei province, where the corona virus first appeared.

In Zhejiang Province, where the city of Wenzhou is located, 661 people are infected with the corona virus. To prevent further spread, public transport in Wenzhou has been shut down and the roads have been temporarily closed off at 46 payment and checkpoints. Nine roads to and from the city are still open. Schools and universities will also remain closed until 1 March.

Spreading through digestion

Across China, more than 14,000 people have been infected with the corona virus, and 304 people have since succumbed. Contamination would not only spread from droplets of saliva or mucus from person to person, but also via digestion. This is what Chinese scientists say.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua reports that the scientists have also found the virus in stool samples and rectal smears. This was after they found that some infected patients only had diarrhea, instead of the usual fever.

The research was carried out by the Renmin Hospital of the University of Wuhan and the virus institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, both located in the provincial capital Hubei, where most corona patients are.
