The journalist Julio López, director of Local wave, and whose program was considered critical of the government of President Daniel Ortega, explained to the Voice of america that the executives of the station sent him a confidential notification to inform him of that decision.
̈ “That position of the radio seems absurd to me, because then they should close the radio, because Don Fabio Gadea (the owner of Radio Corporation) was also cited by the prosecution in the same case. Every time an independent media outlet is closed, you are limiting citizens in their right to know and violating article 66 of the Nicaraguan constitution, “he says.
Meanwhile, the program Local wave it has been suspended on three radio stations. First of Radio La Primerísima, where it was broadcast for 17 years until 2017, then on Radio Universidad and finally on Radio Corporation, considered one of the last independent radio spaces that continues to air in Nicaragua.
In the case of Confidential, this medium had already suffered two raids since 2018, and recently Carlos Fernando Chamorro was accused of alleged money, property and asset laundering, appropriation, improper retention and abusive management, charges against which he defended himself through his program “This week” that is disseminated on the platform YouTube.
“Journalists are not criminals. My journalistic work and that of Confidential it defends itself against the slanders of the regime and we are going to respond to this journalistic judgment by doing more and better journalism, ”said Chamorro.
“They took us out of broadcast television through Canal 12 and in the cable system, and now they have banned the broadcast of Confidencial Radio on Radio Corporación, but here we are doing journalism investigating and revealing the truth that the dictatorship wants to hide, “he added.
For its part, the direction of Radio Corporation has asked for understanding for the decision, while independent communication spaces are increasingly reduced in Nicaragua.
