The Austrian government will close two radical mosques in response to the shootings by jihadist militants in central Vienna earlier this week.
The Austrian Minister for Integration, Suzanne Raba, said the shooting suspect had revisited both mosques after his release from prison.
In addition, one of these mosques, which also involved the radicalization of the attacker, was not registered as a religious organization at all.
The Vienna prosecutor’s office has also said that 16 people have been detained since the attack, six of whom have already been released.
At the same time, it has become known that the Vienna Police Counter-Terrorism Chief has been suspended.
CONTEXT:
Four people were killed and 17 injured in a shooting in the center of Vienna on 2 November. The attack was carried out by at least two men. One of them has been killed by the police, but at least one other attacker is being sought. Officials say the man killed was a supporter of the radical Islamist group Islamic State and what has happened is considered a terrorist act.
