The two police officers who had fatally struck a pedestrian on January 9, 2020 in Rennes will be prosecuted, we learned this Wednesday from the Rennes prosecution. “I decided to prosecute by direct citation for manslaughter and unintentional unintentional injuries”, said the public prosecutor Philippe Astruc, confirming
information from France Bleu. On January 9, around midnight 30, Maëva crossed avenue Sergent-Maginot on a protected passage when
she was hit by a police car who was going into intervention. She died from her injuries in the hospital. The friend who accompanied him was seriously injured.

Six months after the accident, the public prosecutor Rennes decided to refer the two police officers to court, “the driver, in relation to the excessive speed, and the skipper in relation to the non-use of the [deux tons] on a danger zone “. He relied on the IGPN investigation to make his decision. “It will therefore be up to the criminal court to assess in a few months the principle of the criminal responsibility of these two police officers in this road accident,” adds the prosecution.

Pedestrians were masked by a bus

That night in January, the police brigade circulating in an unmarked station wagon had been called for an urgent intervention in Villejean. Using the central corridor reserved for buses, the police car had struck the two pedestrians just before the Châteaudun bridge. The two victims had just gotten off a bus. The police explained that they had not seen them because they were masked by another bus which had not marked the stop. “The findings made it possible to establish that the police vehicle stopped 23 meters after the impact on a wet road,” revealed the investigation.

If the flashing light seemed to have been activated, the “two tones” had not been activated. After the accident, police explained that they did not systematically activate it in the middle of the night.
