Two people died in road traffic accidents in Vidzeme on Monday, the State Police (VP) was informed.

At 13.06 in Liepa – Smiltene, Liepāja Parish, Priekuli District, a man, driving a car “Audi”, drove off the road and overturned.
Road traffic the driver of the car died as a result of the accident, while the passenger was taken to a medical institution. Criminal proceedings have been initiated by the police. The circumstances of the accident are explained.
At 7.35 pm in Launkalne Parish, Smiltene District, on the road Riga – Sigulda – Estonian border (Veclaicene), a collision of two cars took place.
The driver of a VW Polo car was killed at the scene, and a Scania driver was taken to a medical facility. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in the police, the circumstances of the accident are being explained.
In the past day, 80 road traffic accidents have been registered in the country, 12 people have been injured and two have died. A total of 446 administrative offense decisions have been taken in the field of road traffic, including 188 for speeding, 11 for driving under the influence of alcohol and five for aggressive driving.
