“Two People Die After Kambo Ritual with Frog Slime in Australia, Leading to Investigation”

Jakarta

Australia is furious with supposedly a ritual using frog slime. Because two people died.

Launch BBC, Thursday (1/6/2023), an incident caused a stir in the small court located in New South Wales, Australia. There is unusual evidence of the sudden deaths of the two residents.

Natasha Lechner died of a suspected heart attack. Meanwhile, Jarrad Antonovich is believed to have died after being injured by severe vomiting.

Both incidents occurred shortly after they used kambo (poisonous frog mucus) in an ancient Amazonian ritual. It takes place in the northern region, an area known for its beautiful rainforests and stunning beaches.

It is also a place of alternative therapy. Officers are now investigating what went wrong and if anything could be done to avoid a similar incident.

Get to know the kambo ceremony

Kambo, also known as sapo, is a waxy substance that is obtained by scraping the skin giant monkey frog who are still alive.

The frog is found throughout the Amazon. It secretes the substance as a defense mechanism to kill or warn animals that try to eat it.

However, in kambo ceremonies, humans use it to trigger an intensive detoxification process.

After participants drank more than a liter of water, small burns were created on their skin and the substance was applied to open wounds.

This causes the blood pressure to increase, the heart to race and the body to expel fluids by vomiting or having a bowel movement, often both.

Symptoms vary in severity, and usually last up to half an hour.

Native peoples in South America have used kambo for centuries, believing it to ward off bad luck and enhance hunting skills.

Today, it is a shamanic ritual whose adherents believe it is a process of cleansing the body of toxins, bringing mental clarity and treating various ailments.

But no studies have proven its health benefits. And it’s banned by Australian health regulators.

Kambo has been linked to death, seizures, liver failure, and heart attacks.
