66.8 per cent of Norway’s population – 3,602,592 people – have now received the first dose of corona vaccine, FHI’s statistics show on Tuesday night.

1,823,535 people have received dose two, and this makes up 33.8 percent of the population, according to the numbers.

A total of 5,426,127 doses have been administered in this country since vaccination began on 27 December last year.

There may be delays in registering vaccinations that cause the numbers to change over time.

Shorter intervals

In recent times, it has become clear that Norway will receive several doses of corona vaccine, and the interval between the first and second dose will shortened to ten weeks and even less in the coming weeks.

The interval between doses is set at up to twelve weeks, but since the vaccination with dose two starts in full already in mid-August, people can expect to be fully vaccinated earlier than planned, said assistant director Geir Bukholm at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) recently.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) said before the weekend that she is happy that the Norwegian population seems to be fully vaccinated three weeks earlier than estimated.

– Now we get more Moderna and more Pfizer and FHI have looked at the vaccine calendar that we can finish the dose two to three weeks earlier than what was planned in the previous round. This means that we are much stronger equipped going forward, said Solberg to VG.

Mainly two types

Pfizer and Biontech produced the first coronary vaccine used in Norway, and the first dose was set on 27 December 2020.

On 15 January, the first dose of the Moderna vaccine was given, and on 7 February, the AstraZeneca vaccine was introduced. On March 11, AstraZeneca was suspended, before the government announced on May 12 that it would be withdrawn from the vaccination program due to severe blood clots.

The Janssen vaccine from the manufacturer Johnson & Johnson has been removed from the Norwegian vaccine program following reports of serious side effects. It is open for it to be given to volunteers when strict health criteria are met.
