Two other hospitals reach an agreement to avoid the strike

A breakthrough in talks was announced this Sunday to prevent thousands of nurses from going on strike from Monday morning unless a new labor agreement is reached.

Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside hospitals have reached a tentative agreement, which will need to be ratified by the nurses union.

This agreement provides for a salary increase of 19.1 percent, the same that has been achieved with six other hospitals, and which has already been ratified by NewYork-Presbyterian and Maimonides hospitals.

So far, only two hospitals are missing from reaching deals with their nurses, Montefiore in the Bronx and Mount Sinai.

Nurses union president Nancy Hagans said the union puts patient care first by insisting on stronger staff.

Maimonides Medical Center, University of Richmond Medical Center and Flushing Hospital and BronxCare have already reached tentative agreements to avoid the strike.
