two officers are shot and wounded in the Bronx – Telemundo New York (47)

Two New York City Police officers, a woman and a man, were shot and wounded Wednesday night in the Bronx, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told our sister network NBC 4.

According to information from the police source, the incident occurred at around 8:00 pm near the corner of East 187th Street and Beaumont Avenue in the Belmont section. The uniformed men reportedly responded to the scene after receiving a call about an armed person. Upon arrival, the suspect said a few words and fired at the policemen.

The two uniformed men responded to the fire.

The officer ended up with a gunshot wound to the right arm twice and the other officer with a wound near the armpit. Both were transported to Saint Barnabas hospital and are expected to recover, the law enforcement source added.

For his part, the alleged gunman, who would have received about three shots, is in custody and is also recovering in the same hospital, police said. He was also expected to recover.

The police commissioner said at a press conference, which was also attended by Mayor Bill de Blasio, that the suspect has a long criminal record.

Authorities recovered a black semi-automatic firearm at the scene that had been reported stolen last year in Georgia.

The case remains under investigation.
