Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for PA President Mahmoud Abbas, said the incident was a dangerous escalation. The PA, he said, held Israel responsible for the consequences.

Gunfire broke out when Israeli special forces personnel disguised as civilians entered Jenin, the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, to pursue two members of the Al-Quds Brigades, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
An Israeli security source said two members of the Al-Quds Brigades were being chased for arrest on suspicion of attacking Israeli forces recently.
The two Palestinian intelligence officers exchanged fire and were killed, allegedly due to a misunderstanding.
PA security personnel rarely clash with Israeli forces and usually avoid Zionist attacks in the West Bank.
Deputy Governor Jenin Kamal Abu El-Rub said Israeli forces disguised as civilians killed one person, who the PIJ claimed to be a member of, and injured another as they sat in a car outside the headquarters of the Palestinian military intelligence security service.
“Two Palestinian military intelligence officers returned fire and were killed,” El-Rub told Reuters at the hospital where the dead were taken, which was launched Friday (11/6/2021).

Israeli security sources said that after the initial exchange of fire with PIJ members, Palestinian military intelligence officers were called to the scene of the commotion and fired at Israeli troops.
“It appears the unit they shot was undercover,” the source said. “Our troops retaliated, apparently thinking that the shooting of the Palestinian security officers was part of the clashes with the fighters [PIJ] sought. “
There was no official Israeli comment on Wednesday night’s incident.
The Palestinian Authority is coordinating security with Israel in the West Bank despite long stalled talks to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. During last month’s fighting over Hamas-administered Gaza, unrest also flared in the West Bank.
