Two raids by two depositors were recorded yesterday at BLOM Bank in Beirut and Mediterranean Bank in Aley, on Mount Lebanon, and the two deals concluded with depositors receiving $ 50,000 of their money. An informed source confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the intruders were not prosecuted, while the first bank intruder was arrested for a few days in 2019 before being released without being charged.

The young woman, Sally Al-Hafiz, broke into a branch of the “Bank BLOM” in the Sodeco area of ​​Beirut, took some hostages, threw gas on herself and threatened to set her on fire, if she did not give her a deposit to cure his sick sister, before he could get the figure of 20 thousand dollars. . The images spread on social media of Sally, while she was in the bank, holding the weapon, which she later said was not real. And she confirmed through her Facebook account that she decided to get her money to pay the bills to treat her sister who is suffering from cancer.

A similar operation took place at a branch of the “Mediterranean Bank” in Aley, Monte Libano; Where Rami Sharaf El-Din stormed him. The information indicated that he was able to obtain $ 30,000 and surrendered to the security services.

Hassan Mughniyeh, head of the Depositors Association, predicted that “if the situation continues like this, we will face similar operations on a daily basis, after three years have gone by with no plan to return depositors’ money.”
