JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Two minerals never before known on Earth have been found in a large meteorite that fell in Somalia. These findings provide important clues about how asteroids form.

The two new minerals were found in a 2.5-ounce, or about 70-gram, wedge of material taken from the 16.5-ton El Ali meteorite. This meteorite has the ninth largest volume ever found on Earth.
