However, these suspicions were denied by producer Philippa Boyens. Instead, another film is being planned, which will probably revolve around Gandalf‘s adventures in Middle-earth.
In recent months, fans of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy have had a reason to be happy. The animated film “The War of the Rohirrim” tells the epic story of Helm Hammerhand, a legendary hero from JRR Tolkien’s stories, the creator of The Lord of the Rings.
Fans of the fantasy classic have even more to look forward to: The film studio Warner Bros has announced that another “LotR” film will soon be coming to cinemas. This is expected to appear in 2026.

The Return of Gollum
Fresh news from Middle-earth: After the acclaimed “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the three-part “Hobbit” series, a new film project is in the starting blocks: “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”.
The film is already being worked on. Warner Bros. announced that Andy Serkis, who brought Gollum to life on screen, will reprise the role and direct.

Rumors circulated online that the film saga would consist of two parts. The words of Sir Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the original trilogy, further fueled speculation as they were interpreted to mean that the film would be split into two parts. However, these rumors were denied by producer Philippa Boyens in an interview. Instead, we learn that another film is in the works, which will most likely tell the story of Gandalf and his adventures in Middle-earth.
“I can definitely tell you it’s not two movies!”explained Boyens in an interview with Empire. “The misunderstanding arose because we started working on two different live-action films. The first film is The Hunt For Gollum, and I don’t want to reveal too much about the second project.” However, as mentioned earlier, there are speculations that Gandalf and the wizards will play a central role in the said film.
What is LotR: The Hunt for Gollum about?
Boyens also revealed the time frame in which “The Hunt For Gollum” takes place. The film is set in the period between Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday and the departure of his nephew Frodo Baggins from the Shire. The hunt for Gollum is featured in both Tolkien’s novels and Jackson’s films.
Gandalf and Aragorn do everything they can to track down Gollum before he falls into Sauron’s hands. In the film Gandalf mentions that he “Searched everywhere for the creature Gollum” have, however “The Dark Lord found him first”. In the books, Aragorn describes that he captured Gollum near the Dead Marshes, but was unable to get any useful information out of him.
