Two new earthquakes rocked Syria and brought back fears – World

Two earthquakes rocked the coastal city of Latakia in Syriajust a little more than a week after the series of devastating earthquakes that led to tens of thousands of victims in Turkey as well, DPA reported.

Latakia is one of the regions that felt the strongest of the February 6 earthquake.

The 4.7 magnitude quake was recorded today north of Latakia, and minutes later was followed by weaker aftershocks, reported the National Geophysical Institute of Syria.

The first was felt in most parts of the province of the same name, a frightened people took to the streets.

Because of these new tremors locals who intended to return to their homes are no longer quite sure whether to do so.

A buildingon which there was damage from the earthquake on February 6 and its inhabitants were evacuated because it was not safe for habitation, it collapsed today in Latakia, according to local media reports that DPA could not confirm.
