Two more weeks, a 1-kilometer long asteroid will pass Earth

TRIBUNMANADO.CO.ID, ManadoThe rocky asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1 with a length of 1 kilometer will pass the earth on January 19, 2022 at 04:51 WIB.

This celestial body is very close to the earth. The potential danger is quite large when it hits the earth.

Can cause tremendous destruction. Fortunately this asteroid will pass a distance of five times farther than the Moon, more than 1.98 million kilometers from Earth.

This trajectory is the closest for at least the next 172 years.

So, despite the potentially dangerous size of this asteroid, we can rest assured that this space rock will not hit our planet any time soon.

Quoted from IFL Science, the next close pass under 5 million kilometers will also occur on January 19, but in 2105, and the next one will occur on January 21, 2194.

In both cases, the asteroid will pass further than the distance it will travel within the next two weeks.

The asteroid was officially discovered in 1994 by Robert McNaught at Siding Spring Observatory in Coonabarabran, Australia.

However, his observations had actually started twenty years earlier, until September 1974.

This long observation range allows astronomers to measure the orbit of this asteroid with great accuracy.
