Update 4.30pm: More than 90 million Americans have already voted
With two days to go before the US presidential election, some 91.6 million Americans have already cast their votes, CNN reports. One third of the voters did so at a polling station, the rest by post. Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden also cast their votes early, as did running mates Mike Pence en Kamala Harris.
The votes would account for about 43 percent of all US registered voters. In 16 states, more than half of those entitled to vote have already made themselves heard. A majority of states report that never before have so many people cast their votes early.
Compared to four years ago, those 91.6 Americans are equal to about 67 percent of the total turnout. Then more than 136.5 people voted. According to CNN, early voting figures suggest there is a lot of enthusiasm to vote this year. Especially because of the corona crisis, people would now vote earlier and want to avoid crowds on election day.
