One of the children is in serious condition, on dialysis and has had blood transfusions, and the other is evolving favorably.
The two babies from Fetesti, Ialomita County, hospitalized on Friday at the “Marie Curie” Children’s Hospital are stable, but still in serious condition. It is about a six-month-old boy and a seven-month-old girl. Both have contracted a form of the bacterium Escherichia Coli (E.coli) that eliminates the toxin and causes a cascade of extremely unfavorable events in the body, said Dr. Mihaela Balgradean, head of the Nephrology-Dialysis department.
The seven-month-old girl is in the worst condition, she is still on dialysis, and on Saturday she had blood transfusions. Doctors at Marie Curie say the treatment will be long-lasting.
“The two children are six and seven months old, respectively. It’s about a boy and a girl. Each of them ate, in a way, meat. The first of them received soup, and the second, sarmale. Because, no “So, the child, at seven months, must taste”, said, in an ironic tone, Dr. Mihaela Balgradean.
Doctors say that no matter how diverse the baby’s menu may be, meat is forbidden for such young children.
“It is very serious that a seven-month-old child receives meat. In no diversification, in a seven-month-old child, meat is not listed as food. It could have come from anywhere. It should not have been received. Other children arrived at “Marie Curie” after the transfer from the Pediatric Hospital in Pitesti, where they were treated for digestive infections, but their condition worsened and, due to hemolytic-uremic syndrome, they needed dialysis and some intubation. and mechanical ventilation.
The cause of the illness of the children from Arges county who developed hemolytic-uremic syndrome is a strain of E.coli, announced, on February 25, the Minister of Health. The cause was identified following the investigation made by the specialists from the European Center for the Control of Communicable Diseases, together with the Romanian experts.
