The zoo of the American city of Dallas is under the spell of mysterious incidents that took place this month. A new chapter was added yesterday when two monkeys went missing.

According to the police of the Texan city, the two emperor tamarins were taken. The dwarf monkeys were not to be found in their enclosure in the morning. Their shelter was also damaged.

Emperor tamarins normally stay close to their homes, according to the zoo, but a search of the zoo turned up nothing. The police are now investigating the matter.

More suspicious situations

The monkeys’ disappearance is not the first suspicious incident at the Dallas Zoo. The park suddenly closed its doors on January 13 due to “a serious situation”. One of the clouded leopards had escaped. After hours of searching with drones and a special police unit, the feline was found unharmed on the grounds of the animal park a day later.

Suspicious damage to the accommodation was also discovered here and the police started an investigation. A similar opening was found in the enclosure of the langur monkeys, but none of the animals apparently managed to escape.

Dead vulture

Barely recovered from the search, employees found a vulture dead in his enclosure a week later. The zoo says it was an unnatural death. An autopsy revealed a wound. Due to an ongoing investigation, no further details could be given.

The zoo has now installed extra security cameras as a precaution and there are now more night patrols. The two monkeys have not yet been found.

The Dallas Zoo also made headlines in 2004 after a 300-pound gorilla jumped a wall and went on a rampage in the park. The animal injured three people before police shot and killed the gorilla.
