The Metropolitan Police of the Aburrá Valley confirmed that in the midst of an act of intolerance between the teenagers involved, one of them He attacked the other with a sharp weapon, causing several wounds, including one that pierced one of his lungs.while the other suffered minor injuries to the face and head.

While the young man with the most serious health problems remains confined in a health center awaiting his medical progress, the other was treated and immediately discharged, but was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities.

Both students are 15 years old and are in ninth grade at the Héctor Abad Gómez educational institution in the Boston neighborhood of Medellín.

In this same institution, on August 12, the case of a minor who was seriously injured when he accidentally got stuck in the chest by a glass was reported. The glass was from a bulletin board that was in the school hallways. This incident led to an investigation by the local Education Department to determine the circumstances and responsibilities of the incident.

Regarding this case of intolerance among teenagers, Colonel Eddy Sánchez, operational commander of the Metropolitan Police, explained: “One of them was transferred to the Neurological Hospital and is currently under observation. Likewise, the other young man was transferred to the La Pilota Hospital Unit.”

The Secretary of Education of Medellin has expressed her rejection of the recent incidents of aggression that have involved students in the city. In commune 8 (Villa Hermosa), located in the central-eastern area of ​​Medellin, There have been several violent episodes in less than a week, including an assault last weekend between two young people.

Educational authorities have condemned these acts of violence, pointing out the importance of promoting a safe and respectful school environment. Although the specific cause behind these attacks is unknown, the ministry insists on the need for preventive and corrective measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.

“These situations generate deep sadness for us, as a Secretariat, and for the city in general. Since we learned of this case, we immediately activated the care route for the protection of the assaulted student, with a view to restoring her rights, through the School Protective Environment strategy,” the entity commented.

Regarding these cases of intolerance that are less common in the country, the Ministry of the Interior warned about the worrying increase in fights due to this cause, between January and December 2023, 51,100 cases were recorded.

Bogotá, Medellín and Cali are the cities that record the most incidents of this type in Colombia, 70% of the cases would be due to problems between neighbors, 44% due to disagreements about noise and 40% due to issues of drug dealing, pets or garbage.

“Social, cultural, criminological, economic factors and even the perception of security have led to violent deaths. Acts of intolerance have led to the number of homicides that were previously committed by criminal gangs,” said Jaime García, a criminal expert.
