Two men from Deventer receive up to three years in prison for WhatsApp fraud | NOW

The men looted around 82,000 euros between September 2019 and February 2020 by posing as acquaintances of their victims.

They convinced their victims, among other things, by using profile photos of their loved ones, the court writes. Then they asked for money, for example because they supposedly had problems with internet banking. This involved hundreds to thousands of euros per victim.

The two men transferred the money to a money mule bank account. Then they withdraw the money from a machine. A money mule helps criminals to divert money.

The two men have been found guilty of hacking, fraud and money laundering. They not only go to jail, but also have to pay tens of thousands of euros to the victims.
